This wonderful anime was aired in Italy in the distant 1991 and have since gone missing, a I see it for inscrutable mysteries as it is a true masterpiece by the great Rumiko Takahashi, who also wrote the best known is' almost magic Johnny (in the original Orange Road). Maison Ikkoku is made up of 96 episodes and tells the story (which takes place in full year 80) between the student Godai and Kyoko young widow, administrator of the Maison Ikkoku, un modesto alloggio che ospita oltre a Godai anche la pettegola Ichinose , lo schietto e dissacrante Yotsuya e la rossa Akemi . Altri personaggi ruotano intorno ai protagonisti tra i quali l’aitante maestro di tennis Mitaka , la nonnina di Godai e il suo migliore amico Sakamoto . Inutile dire che si tratta di una storia che mescola sapientemente romanticismo ed equivoci a non finire. In molte puntate si passa dal riso al pianto grazie anche ad un’atmosfera capace di far commuovere anche solo attraverso uno sguardo o un gesto. Come nella migliore tradizione nipponica, tutta la storia si sviluppa gradualmente finendo per avere progressi veramente importanti solo nelle ultime 10 puntate. Insomma chi cerca il bacio deve aspettare e aspettare perché la serie rispetta molto quelle che sono le tradizioni nipponiche in materia sentimentale, ossia un lunghissimo corteggiamento per arrivare ad un singolo bacio, preludio di una richiesta di matrimonio. A noi occidentali tutto questo appare come qualcosa di inconcepibile ma chi ama questo cartone sa che tutto è funzionale alla storia.
Un grosso difetto è da imputare al doppiaggio, perfetto per le prime 50 puntate o giù di lì e poi terribile in quella che è alla fin fine la parte più importante. I doppiatori cambiano e si fa estrema fatica ad accettare le nuove voci, spesso troppo caricaturali e inadatte ai vari personaggi. Oddio verso la fine ci si abitua but also would be better not to change voice actors.
